Training and assessment is given in some or all of the following areas, depending on which licence you wish to upgrade to:

  • Safe Driving
  • Open Road
  • Bus Stop
  • Apply Road Rules
  • Drive in Traffic
  • Manoeuvres
  • Secure the Load
  • Couple & Uncouple

You will be given credit for the skills which you perform correctly, and repeat assessments are focused only on areas where you have had problems.

Competencies

In an assessment you will have competencies assessed to make sure that your driving is both safe and consistent. Some competencies are required to be assessed more than once. This is to make sure you have developed good driving habits.

After each session, your assessor will 'sign off' each successful competency in your Heavy Vehicle CBA Learners Log Book. Then you will only need to concentrate on completing any outstanding competencies.

For any competency to be signed off, you must demonstrate it without any errors.

Fully accredited driving courses

All our driving courses are fully accredited and all our trainers are Level 4 Workplace Training and Assessors with years of industry experience. We also work with training companies with regard to traineeships for the transport industries.

We can run courses in-house or externally, using your vehicles or our own. An integral component of our training is Individual Driver Assessment.

We also offer a pre-employment driver testing and assessment service. Allow us to advise you in order to maximise your investment in training. Costing is based on an individual basis.

Competency Based Assessment (CBA)

If you live in Sydney, the Central Coast or Newcastle, Competency Based Assessment (CBA) is the primary method to upgrade to a heavy vehicle licence.

You will be required to undergo a knowledge test at the RTA and be issued with a log book.

CBA provides assessment under a wide range of driving conditions by an RTA accredited assessor.

The assessment is much more flexible than a driving test.

Contact our team today at Royce Driver Training for more information on our driving courses and CBA licence upgrades.

How the system works

  • It is a requirement that a knowledge test be passed before a heavy vehicle CBA log look can be issued.
  • Go to your local RTA or download from the RTA Website:

Heavy Vehicle CBA Learner's Log Book and

Guide to Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment.

  • Our trainer/assessor will see you for your CBA sessions.
  • Your assessor will report completed competencies directly to the RTA. When your log book has been completed for all the competencies, you can go to any motor registry for the issue of your licence.
  • The RTA will keep your Log Book. Remember, you do not need to take a driving test.
  • We will issue a 'Statement of Competency' to you, this has details of the vehicle you used for training. It may be used as a Reference.
  • Clients must meet trainer/assessor at our premises (unless organised otherwise).
  • 72 hours notice required for cancellation
  • Appropriate footwear must be worn.
